Definition of Outcome

  • A possible result of a probability experiment is called an outcome.

Examples of Outcome

  • Head is a possible outcome when a coin is tossed.
  • 6 is a possible outcome when a number cube is rolled.

Solved Example on Outcome

A dime and a penny were tossed at the same time by Richard. Which tree diagram shows all the possible outcomes?

Choices:
A. Tree diagram 4
B. Tree diagram 1
C. Tree diagram 3

Correct Answer: C
Solution:
Step 1: The possible outcomes are HH, HT, TH, TT.
Step 2: So, there are 4 possible outcomes and only the Tree diagram 3 shows them correctly.
